At least four airports in Gujarat, located close to the Indo-Pakistan border have been temporarily shut down for civilian aircraft operations for a day on Wednesday, after India retaliated against terrorist targets in Pakistan, official sources said.
Airports at Bhuj and Kandla in the Kutch district that shares its borders with Pakistan have been shut for civilian operations, sources told BusinessLine. Flights to Mumbai and Delhi from both these airports have been cancelled for the day.
Similarly, Jamnagar and Rajkot (Hirasar) airports in Saurashtra region have also been closed for civilian operations, sources added. The runways of the airports at Bhuj and Jamnagar are used for both civilian and military operations. Officials said that these four airports had functioned normally on Tuesday.
The temporary closures for airports came after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor” hitting nine terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan.
Meanwhile airports at Ahmedabad and Surat continued to operate normally, handling flights from various locations. Meanwhile, the Gujarat government on Wednesday will be conducting mock drills in 18 of the 33 districts of the state. This includes locations that have sensitive industrial installations.
